Jared and Jessie are a brother and sister writing team who have collaborated on a number of musical theater works. Jared is the music guy, and Jessie takes care of the words. They conveniently met in the same small New Jersey town where they were surprised to find they had even their parents in common. They’ve collaborated on three major works to date: Rachel, a musical about biologist and nature writer Rachel Carson (Harold and Mimi Steinberg prize for Best Original Play, Fresh Fruit Festival Outstanding Musical, JDT Lab Selection); La Maupin, a musical about swordswoman and opera singer Julie d’Aubigny (International MUT Competition Grand Prize Winner, Fresh Fruit Festival Audience Favorite) and are currently collaborating with Lipica Shah onVoices of Tulia, (Fresh Ground Pepper Resident, Barn Arts Resident.) Jessie and Jared share a harmonious collaboration process as composer and writer - with only a touch of sibling rivalry still in the mix - and continue to work towards creating new and exciting musical theater pieces that promote equality and diversity.

Julie d'Aubigny. Swordswoman. Opera Singer. Rogue. Notorious bisexual. In La Maupin this creature of legend lives again, in a fast-paced musical adventure. At her peak, Julie was a force to be reckoned with - bashing bigots, tumbling chambermaids, and taking on some of Opera's most iconic roles, from Pallas Athena to Dido. But under the legend there is a woman before her time. A woman trying to navigate an austere world that never quite made sense to her. Accounts vary; was she a lunatic or a martyr? A hero or a cautionary tale? Only one fact goes undisputed about Julie d'Aubigny, La Maupin: She is a legend.
